Alice Decker Obituary

Alice Leone (née Lindquist) Decker, age 94, of New Ulm, MN died peacefully at Our Lady of Peace hospice in St Paul, MN on May 22, 2022.

The youngest of 10 children, she was born on a family farm 4/28/1928 near Blomkest, MN in Kandiyohi County and graduated from Olivia High School in 1946.  Alice was united in marriage with John Jr. (“Jack”) Decker, of Olivia on March 7th, 1947 at the EUB Church rectory in Olivia.  “Jack" and Alice shared 56 years of life adventures together.

She is survived by two daughters; Kathleen Marron of Minneapolis and Debra Decker (Jane Hamilton) of St. Paul; two grandsons Kip Marron (Ilena, children Lila and Eden) of Minneapolis, MN, and Scott Marron (Becca, children Alec, Jack, Macon, Holden) of Anoka MN. In addition, Alice is survived by many nieces and nephews, friends and relatives whose calls, letters, numerous thoughtful gestures and friendly visits enriched her life.

Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 2003, her parents Fred and Katheryne Lindquist; sisters Hazel Hanson, Myrtle Kemnitz, Florence Shanahan, Delores Abraham, Lorraine Folkerts; sisters-in-law Glorianne Lenz, June Decker, Betty Decker, Elizabeth Lindquist, Myra, Ida Mae, and Dorothy Lindquist; brothers Orville, Marvin, Ervin, Wallace Lindquist; brothers-in-law Lee Hanson, Ted Kemnitz, Adrian Shanahan, Lyndon Abraham, Lee Folkerts, Donald and Bob Decker.

Alice worked as a telephone operator, bookkeeper, and at the New Ulm police department as a police clerk for 22 years.  She was an active member of Oakwood Methodist church in New Ulm.  Alice enjoyed her church, their lake home, archery, fishing, bowling, knitting, reading, TV, and especially playing light-hearted cards and games with her family and friends.  She will be remembered for her wonderfully kind, thoughtful, open mind and generous spirit.  Alice was a joy to be around and lived happily in her home until a stroke resulted in an overnight stay in the hospital in New Ulm before she was transferred to Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St. Paul, where she was lovingly attended to by staff and close family.

Alice will be interred next to her husband John Jr. Decker in the Olivia Cemetery.  Plans for a celebration of life will be forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Alice Decker’s name may be sent to: Our Lady of Peace Hospice 2076 St Anthony Ave. St. Paul MN 55104 or Oakwood United Methodist Church,1630 Oakwood Avenue New Ulm MN 56073.
