Daisy Leone (Pomrenke) Fleischhacker, 90, of Savage, Minnesota passed away at home Thursday, October 26, 2023, surrounded by family.
Daisy was born September 30, 1933, in Perkins County, South Dakota, to Herman J. and Mary (Cambell Bryant) Pomrenke. Daisy was the youngest of twelve siblings. At the age of three her family moved to Roberts County, South Dakota.
On November 7th, 1950, at the age of seventeen, she married Alfred C. Fleischhacker. They farmed in South Dakota until 1965 when they sold their farm and moved to Bloomington, Minnesota. Alfred and Daisy enjoyed 46+ years of loving marriage.
Alfred and Daisy were devoted to their six children, 2 girls and 4 boys. When her youngest child entered school, Daisy became a cook for the Bloomington schools. Seven years later, family devotion called her to resign in order to help care for her 1st grandchild. That love and devotion to her family continued years later to include her great-grandchildren.
Daisy was an animal and nature lover. Her years on the farm found her with favorites among the cows, geese, and sheep, who would follow her (once even into the house). In Bloomington and Savage her yard was filled with bird houses and feeders year-round. Other wildlife frequented her yard daily. She nursed a baby squirrel her boys found fallen in the yard one year, spent the winter raising it and all spring teaching it to forage for and bury food in the back yard. After it was released, it continued to return to the yard for many years after.
Family and friends were well aware of Daisy’s collections of swans, bells, teapots and elephants.
Daisy is survived by her daughter, Patricia Fleischhacker-Glasgow (Thomas Glasgow), sons, Fred Alan, Paul Fleischhacker, Daniel Fleischhacker (Kathy), 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; her daughter, Lois Kay; her son, David James and her eleven siblings.
She will be greatly missed in our lives.
The celebration of life will be Saturday November 4th 1-4pm at Fred Babcock VFW Post 5555. 6715 Lake Shore Dr S, Richfield, MN 55423. There is additional parking across the street at Wood Lake Nature Center. We are planning an opportunity at 2:30 for anyone who wishes to say anything special, read a poem or share any memories.
