Joan Scheer Obituary

Joan Scheer passed away on April 24, 2022 at her home in Lakeville, Mn.  In 2014 she moved
to Lakeville to be closer to her family. During the last 8 years, Joan lived at Highview Hills where
she made wonderful friends. She enjoyed playing pinnacle and evening dinners with her
friends. She loved spending Sundays with her family, especially during football season!
Joan was born in Chicago in 1942. She grew up in a Polish family where she was raised with
a lot of love and tradition. Her favorite memories were the large family dinners, and how the
card tables would come out as soon as the table was cleared. Her family lived in Chicago until
1955 when they moved to Glenview, IL. She attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and then
Marywood High School. This is where she made friends that lasted a lifetime. Joan went on to
the University of Miami where she graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Nursing. In 1964 she
moved to Hawaii where she worked at Queen’s and did private duty nursing. She enjoyed
bodysurfing in Waikiki to pass her free time. From Oahu, she moved to New York City where
she worked at Bellevue Hospital in the Neurology and Neurosurgery Department. By 1967, she
was back in Miami working at Mercy Hospital. In Miami, she had her two children and settled
down until around 1981 when her adventurous spirit called her out to California to live and work
at Santa Monica Hospital.
Joan loved to travel. When she returned to Miami in the 80’s she joined the Miami Ski Club.
They took a trip to Zermatt, Switzerland and she won the honorary chicken award. Through the
years she also played tennis and golf. After a few years back in Miami, her heart called her
back to Chicago which was her home. This is where she took up Curling and played in a
league. She loved winter and loved the four seasons. But most of all, she loved her Grandsons
who would come along later, Jack and Nick. They were her pride and joy.
Joan traveled extensively to Mexico, Europe, Norway, Egypt, Greece, Jamaica, Ecuador and
Alaska. She was happiest in her travels and recounting memories of her adventures. She had
a big heart, a great sense of humor and an unconventional approach to life.
Joan is survived by her children Scott (Jenny), Dana (Michael), Grandchildren Jack and Nick
and brother Robert (Bert). Predeceased by many good friends and family.
