Joyce Peterson Obituary

Joyce Arlene Peterson (Gabrielson) of Eagan, MN passed away suddenly on May 18, 2023 at the age of 59 into eternity with Jesus.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunty, and friend. Her celebration of life service will be on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 11AM at Chapel Hill Church in Eagan at 4888 Pilot Knob Road, with visitation one hour prior. Service will be livestreamed and recorded. https://chapelhillchurch.com/live-stream

Joyce was born on April 27, 1964, the daughter of Dan and Arlene Gabrielson. She grew up in Richfield; attended Wooddale Church; and graduated from Richfield High School and the University of Minnesota.

Joyce worked continually from her early teen years, to her first post-college job in the accounting department at Dunwoody Institute. From there, Joyce moved to ISD 196, where she took great pride in the many intricate details of her work and the relationships she built with staff and administrators. Far and above her work life, Joyce's favorite roles were being a wife and a mom.

On April 7, 1990, she married the love of her life, Curt Peterson whom she met while working with his sister at Dunwoody Institute. They made their home in Eagan, Minnesota and welcomed their sweet daughter, Rozlynn Grace soon after.

Joyce enjoyed the details and simple pleasures of gardening, baking, knitting, quilting, games (especially Dutch Blitz), scrapbooking, and photography. She was always “the one with the camera” at any gathering and took great joy in making and giving thoughtful gifts.

Joyce's faith was important to her.  While a member of Wooddale’s youth group, Joyce made a missionary trip to Ireland.  Later, she spent many years teaching Sunday School at Chapel Hill Church and mentoring friends plus co-workers who were new to their Christian faith.

Some of Joyce's favorite memories were obtained traveling, first with her parents and siblings, and later with Curt and Rozlynn. She had a fantastic time traveling with Curt and Rozlynn to the Canadian Rockies, Grand Canyon, Seattle, Boston, San Diego, Washington DC and Dallas. She especially cherished the European adventure she had with Curt and Rozlynn following Roz's high school graduation.

Joyce was preceded in death by her dad, Dan Gabrielson and special aunt Margie Waldof.

She is survived by her husband, Curt Peterson; daughter, Rozlynn Peterson; mother, Arlene Gabrielson; brother, Duane Gabrielson (Mary); sister, Suzann Bartlett; sister, Sandra Tola (Yadessa); sisters-in-law Sandra Peterson and Arly French (George); many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, family will use memorials for Kingdom building charities, to include JesusDriven.org and Chapel Hill Church. Private interment will be at a later date in Kerkhoven, MN.
