Louise Erickson Obituary

With much sadness but with great hope, the family of Louise Ann Erickson announces her death, at age 70, on February 22, 2023. Louise died at her Woodbury, MN home with her loving husband Rod and her faithful sons, Bjorn and Leif, by her side.

Louise was born on March 19,1953, in Minneapolis, MN to Marva and John Ballentine. As a child and teenager, Louise was known as “Weezy” by her immediate family, friends and relatives. Louise attended elementary and middle schools in Minneapolis, St. James and Tyler, MN. She considered Tyler her home town and loved growing up in Tyler and enjoyed many close friends in her neighborhood, church and school. Louise was quite sad when her family moved to St.Paul,MN in the summer before her ninth grade year. She graduated from Highland Park (St.Paul) Senior High School but remained connected to her Tyler friends by attending class reunions and other events. Louise attended Pillsbury College in Owatonna, MN and Mankato State University, taking elementary education degrees from both institutions.

Louise spent her entire post college work life teaching elementary students in Minneapolis, Lansdale, Pennsylvania, St.Paul, and Woodbury Christian schools. For more than 32 years she was a fixture at Woodbury’s New Life Academy where she loved the futures of first graders by teaching them reading, writing, arithmetic and all about Jesus. Many of Louise’s New Life Academy friends visited her and prayed for her during the last days of her life. During summers and school vacations, Louise taught and ministered to Ukrainians and Germans on more than a dozen trips. While attending Pillsbury College, Louise met Rod Erickson of Woodbury and they were married on September 16, 1978. Rod was the perfect guy for Louise. He loved Louise and was Jesus to her until her last breath.

Louise is also survived by son Bjorn and his wife Jessie (Hetland) of Duluth and by son Leif and his wife Mandy (Baden) of Minneapolis. Louise dearly loved her 5 Erickson grandchildren: Anja, Haakon, Dagny, Shiloh and August. They loved Louise and called her “Oma.” Louise’s brother Jim of Falcon Heights also survives her along with extended family members including cousins, sisters and brothers in law, nieces and nephews.

Louise was predeceased by her parents John and Marva, and by her sister, Mary Louise Brown of Greenville, SC.

Louise walked through the valley of the shadow of death hand-in-hand with Jesus, just the way she lived. She is with Jesus now and forever, a reality that fulfills her favorite Psalm, number 27. This is the family’s hope.

You are invited to attend a Visitation at 2 PM and Louise’s 3 PM memorial service on Sunday, March 17, at New Life Church, 6758 Bailey Rd, Woodbury, MN 55129. Memorial gifts may be given to New Life Academy at the same address.
