Patricia "Pat" Deleres Martin

September 23, 1927 ~ March 10, 2023 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Obituary

Patricia Martin

Pat was born in Manitoba, Canada on September 23, 1927 and passed away at the age of 95 in Eagan, Minnesota on 3/10/23.  She loved her family, the natural world, lifelong learning, and Gordon Setters.

Pat spent the first 16 years of her life in Ontario, Canada.  A natural student, she skipped two grades to graduate high school at the age of 16. She then moved to the United States to attend the University of Minnesota. Pat completed her degree at 20 and pursued a career in office design.

Pat met Frank, the love of her life in 1953 at a mixer sponsored by House of Hope Presbyterian Church. Frank introduced himself to Pat and she told him to stop stepping on her feet. Seven months later, they married anyway.

Pat and Frank settled in St. Paul and later moved to Shoreview, MN where they made their home for 44 years. Throughout most of their marriage, Pat and Frank owned Gordon Setters. Pat showed them and Frank participated in field trials. If they weren’t showing dogs, they were volunteering for numerous organizations.

It was Pat’s belief that a retired husband is a wife’s full time job. When Frank retired at 60, Pat took a job at Twin City Pet Supply in St. Paul so she could surround herself with people who loved to talk about their dogs. It was a perfect part time activity for a social animal lover.

In 2002, Pat and Frank moved to Eagan to be closer to grandchildren. They spent free time in northern Minnesota, first at a cabin Frank built in Carlton County and later at a cabin on Lake of the Woods in Morson, Ontario.

Pat was the one you needed in a trivia game with questions involving everything except sports. While she had no formal training as an artist, Pat was always sketching birds, plants or dresses she would sew. An accomplished seamstress, Pat designed and created most of her clothing. We will miss her kind demeanor and independent spirit.

Preceded in death by husband, Frank. Survived by her daughter Janet (Kurt) Johnson and beloved grandchildren Reid Johnson and Brooke Johnson.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Commons on Marice senior living community and Brighton Hospice.

Memorial service to be held at a later date with interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery where Pat will be reunited with Frank in everlasting peace.

Memorials preferred to The Open Door Pantry food shelf in Eagan.
