Peter Granat Obituary

August 23, 1940 to April 17, 2020.

Peter D. Granat age 79 of Lake St. Croix Beach, Minnesota passed away Friday, April 17, 2020 at home accompanied his wife (Jeanne) and their son (Joseph).

Born August 23, 1940 in St. Paul Minnesota. Pete was adopted by Harold and Ruth (Christensen) Granat. Pete graduated from Johnson High School in 1957. Pete then enlisted in the United States Army where he served from 1958 to 1962 and served most of his time in   Germany as a construction engineer. Upon completion of his service in the Army Pete worked at 3M in the Abrasives Quality Control Division retiring in July 1996 after 34 years.

Over the years he was active in many organizations. Pete served as a volunteer fireman for the Lower St. Croix Fire Department before retiring after 21 year. Upon retirement from the department Pete continued his service for the department as Treasurer for the Lower St. Croix Fire District for 17 years. Pete married the love of his life (Jeanne) in 1983 and was blessed by a son (Joseph) the same year. 

Pete was a man of great talents. He enjoyed woodworking and took joy in creating many things for friends and family. Pete enjoyed the simple things in life and loved the peacefulness of the outdoors and nature. His favorite place to be was at his camper located at Shades of Sherwood Campground in Zumbrota MN. He was entertained by friends whether visiting around the campfire or riding around the grounds with his dog Gus.

Pete will be fondly remembered by friends and family; most important was his love for his son. He was supportive and proud and loved watching him play sports and other activities. He was a very involved husband and father. Pete was a true friend who reached out and touched many lives.

 Pete will remain in the hearts of his wife (Jeanne) of 36 years, son (Joseph) Mother in law Phyllis Smith of Hudson WI, Sisters in Laws Elaine Granat of Northfield Mn, Michelle Bartkey of Big Lake MN, Jayne Smith of North Hudson WI, Nancy Gibson of Oakdale MN Brother in Law Mike (Linda) Smith of Hudson WI and Best Friend Joe (Evie) Carroll of Lake St. Croix Beach MN and many other relatives. 

Pete is preceded in death by Parents, Ruth Granat, Bother Gilmore Granat, Father in Law Glenn (Speed) Smith and Sister in Law Cheri Smith.

A Celebration of Life for Pete will be held at a future date.
