Randall Nelson

Randall Roy Nelson, age 62, of Inver Grove Heights, MN formerly of Des Plaines, IL.  Passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020, after fighting ALS for several years, took his last breath at home surrounded by family.   

Randy attended LeTourneau College in Longview, TX, and worked as an A&P mechanic at Northwest Airlines and in maintenance for Metro Transit.  Through the years, Randy loved working on many projects, including cars, antique tractors, and motorcycles.  He enjoyed using his skills as a handy man and carpenter.  Randy was an avid sports enthusiast, whether playing or coaching his sons in a variety of sports. 

After moving to Minnesota in 1980, Randy met and later married Linda Speer on September 10, 1983 in Bloomington, MN.  In 1985, they built their own home in Inver Grove Heights, MN where they raised their three sons.  Randy loved his family and was a caring father, husband and friend.  Randy loved to travel, looked forward to his next adventure, and anticipated the extended family reunion in Chicago each year on Thanksgiving.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Linda, 37 years; three sons: Jake, Daniel (Haley), and Sam (Nicole); Father and step-mother Roy (Phyllis) Nelson;  Siblings Laurie (Norm) Peterson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, David (Debbie) Nelson of Grand Blanc, Michigan, Dan (Lori) Nelson of White Lake, Wisconsin, Jim (Andrea) Nelson of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; Sister-in-law Joy (Marc) Linman, Chisago City, Minnesota, brother-in-law Bob (Andrea) Speer of Bloomington, Minnesota, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Randy is preceded in death by his mother, Ann Nelson; and one nephew, Timmy Nelson.  

Interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Inver Grove Heights

Memorials preferred to ALS Association Minnesota North Dakota South Dakota Chapter.
