Richard Cooper Obituary

Richard “Dick” Kain Cooper, 61, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 27, 2024.  Funeral services are pending.

He was born in Kansas City, MO to William Cooper and Elaine Cooper (Kain) on May 20, 1962.  During his youth the family moved around spending time Texas and Wyoming before settling in the Twin Cities in 1972. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1985 from the University of Minnesota.  He married Patricia (Patty) Mitteness in 1986, the couple were blessed with two children:  Andrew and Anne.  The family eventually settled in Cottage Grove in 1989.   

Dick loved outdoor sports; spending time boating and motorcycling.  He also enjoyed collecting and working on vintage automobiles.  Dick loved being with his friends and family, especially around the bonfire. He was a guy his friends and family could count on when he was needed.  Dick spent the majority of his career in the Utilities industry.  During the last two decades, he worked primarily as a consulting engineer where his journeys took him to Europe, Japan, Brazil and many locations around the USA. 

Dick will be remembered by his children Andrew and Anne Cooper; siblings Carol (Douglas) Johnson and David (Kate) Cooper; along with many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.  

He is preceded in death by his parents William and Elaine Cooper and brother William Cooper.
